    • Master's research focus was using machine learning to investigate how much information we can acquire from fracture surfaces, and see if we can use machine learning to predict fracture toughness.

    • Attended additional classes alongside research: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Economic analysis, Nuclear Materials, Neutron Science and Reactor Physics,  Radiation Damage in Materials, Biomaterials.

University of Cambridge, Pembroke College (2023-2027)

  • PhD in Materials Science Engineering.

    • Research is co-funded by Rolls Royce PLC and the ISIS Neutron and Muon source. This research focusses on enabling commercial electric flight; using neutron total scattering to optimise the magnetic, mechanical, and electrical properties of FeCo alloys for applications in electric aviation motors.

    • £160k worth of academic grants obtained during PhD to date.

    • Key skills developed:

      • EBSD, SEM, X-ray, mechanical testing, magnetic testing and synchrotron data analysis.

      • Developed in-depth metallurgical knowledge.

      • Scientific communication/presentation, teamwork, and time/project management.

      • Reverse monte carlo simulations.

      • Matlab and Python programming for data analysis.

Courses and Skills

EDX IBM Certified Programming Course For Data Science (3 Months - 2020)

  • Gained proficiency in utilising SQL, Python, IBM Cloud, and Jupyter Notebooks for data manipulation, data visualisation, and machine learning. These skills were tested through successfully completing capstone projects.

EDX Harvard Certified Programming Course For Data Science (1 Month-2020)

  •  I have developed my ability in writing algorithms in R for analysing and visualising datasets, culminating in the successful completion of a capstone project.

Oxford University Matlab Programming Course (4 Months - 2019/2020)

  •  Developed my ability to write Matlab algorithms to efficiently analyse datasets. Using this, statistical analysis, and numerical programming, I then thoroughly modelled and analysed the movement of particles across a 2D surface.

Experience

Materials Researcher/ Metallurgist intern - Alloyed (8 weeks - 2022)

  • During this internship, I led a research project for the company where I investigated news ways of increasing the high temperature creep life of additively manufactured Nickel-based superalloy components. This was for aerospace applications.

  • I also gained experience in working and thriving in a fast-paced industrial environment, and working with the rest of the team to continually produce market-leading products.

Materials Researcher - Oxford University Materials Science Department Internship (8 weeks - 2021)

  • A competitive and prestigious opportunity funded by the Henry Royce Institute. This was awarded to only three people in the Oxford University Materials Science Department and a total of 33 people across the UK this year.

  • Researched the effects of high-pressure-torsion on the irradiation resistance of Eurofer-97 using nano-indentation.

  • Led my own research into the bond characteristics of accumulatively roll-bonded aluminium-copper samples using scanning electron microscopy.

  • Lead independent data analyst on both projects. I utilised Matlab coding to clean, analyse, and create meaningful insights from multiple large and complex datasets (over 150,000 measurements per dataset).

  • Presented my research to the Materials For Fusion Power (MFFP) group at Oxford University.

  • Published a paper on my work with Eurofer-97.

Materials Consultant - Oxford University 3rd-Year Materials Science Team Design Project (2 weeks - 2021)

  • Led a team of seven material scientists to create a viable innovative solution which would significantly reduce the background hydrogen and overall contaminant concentration in atom-probe instruments.

  • Resulted in a proposed solution and a new atom-probe design that was presented to examiners at the Oxford University Materials Science Department.

Business Consultant - The Student Consultancy, Oxford University And Criterium Solutions, (6 weeks - 2021)

  • Led a team of six undergraduates to analyse the halal food industry and identify where new standards should be set whilst being culturally sensitive to Islamic religion. We then identified where blockchain technology could be utilised to streamline the farm-to-fork process, and ensure that customer trust is maintained.

  • This opportunity developed my client relation, efficient researching, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

Business Consultant - The Oxford Strategy Challenge (TOSCA) (2 weeks - 2021)

  • Led a team of four to advise HYPE, a hydrogen-fuelled taxi company, on their entry into the UK market.

  • Resulted in a proposed optimal market entry location and a progression timeline for maximal growth and profit.

  • Developed my teamwork, organisation, delegation, presentation, and communication skills.

Data Consultant - Blonde Money Internship (5 weeks - 2020)

  • Independent lead researcher on two projects, and I presented my work on a weekly basis to senior data analysts.

  • Project 1: I used Matlab, regression models, and time-series analysis to analyse large datasets describing economic effects due to COVID-19 and predict economic recovery rates. This resulted in published work to paying clients.

  • Project 2: Mathematical modelling of a new economic theory based around pandemic effects on economic sectors.

Joint Consultative Committee of Undergraduates, Oxford University Materials Science Department (2019-2023)

  • As a representative on the JCCU, I listen to the views of my peers and work with others to improve the educational environment for undergraduates at the Oxford University Materials Department. This has developed my organisation, teamwork, and time-management skills.

Extra-Curricular

Men’s Captain of Corpus Christi College Boat Club (1 year - 2021)

  • During my captaincy, I doubled the number of male rowers, and I successfully carried-out my responsibilities for training the men's rowing teams (over 30 men), team selection, and organising the teams to race in regattas. This has allowed me to develop my skills in leadership, teamwork, organisation, and self discipline.

MIT Rowing Club (MITRC) (2022-2023)

  • Mens competitive rower.
